You know what needs to be a pet?

Something that shape shifts

Say you buy it, and then it says what you would want it to look like, then a list pops up from previous monsters, and players, and then you click it. So it can look like ANY creature, but you can only change it when you first use it, free, but every other change costs gold. But you only can pick regular players and monsters when you first get it, then you level it up when you level up, and a higher list appears. So let's say you want your pet to look like Ele, it would cost a couple Million in gold to do so. It will load up to what he is wearing now or when he was last on. But it's only looks, not the same as stats or anything like that.
