Changing the SFX

I tried changing the intro song and well as the song played when leveling up and it didn't work.
I did the following:
o1. Replaced the sfx001 (opening song) and sfx039 (leveling song) with my own mp3 and tried it. That didn't work.
o2. I converted the mp3 to wav and tried again. That did not work.
o3. I thought maybe the file was so big so I tried the song I renamed the sfx039 (which is smaller than the sfx001 file) to sfx001 and tried again. It played for about a second and then stopped.
Can anyone help?
